Philipp Zens

Philipp Zens graduated from medical school at the University of Bern, Switzerland, in 2019. He completed a certificate of advanced studies in applied data sciences at the University of Bern in 2021. In 2020, he received an MD-PhD scholarship from the Swiss National Science Foundation and enrolled in the Graduate School for Health Science at the University of Bern. In 2021, he received his MD degree after publishing his work on a novel prognostic score for non-small cell lung cancer patients receiving neoadjuvant therapy. He is currently doing his Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Sabina Berezowska and Prof. Erik Vassella focusing on the histomorphological and molecular characterization of lung cancer brain metastases. In the domain of digital pathology, Philipp is working on the segmentation and quantification of immunohistochemical slides. He is working on robust methods for the quantification of immune cells and RNA probes in non-small cell lung cancer and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas.
