Javier Garcia Baroja

PhD candidate

Javier Garcia Baroja earned a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from ETH Zurich, specializing in image analysis. During his master’s thesis with the Odyssey Digital Pathology Research Group, he focused on nuclei detection and classification in H&E-stained images. Building on this foundation, he joined the Institute of Tissue Medicine and Pathology (ITMP) at the University of Bern as a PhD candidate under the supervision of Prof. Inti Zlobec. His current research centers on lymph node metastases in colorectal cancer, aiming to characterize their metastatic potential through morphological and molecular insights derived from histology and 3D multiplex data. Javier is particularly interested in leveraging deep learning techniques to enhance the understanding of disease progression.
