Ana Leni Frei graduated from Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, in 2021. There, she studied Life Sciences Engineering with a specialization in computational biology. Ana is currently doing her Ph.D. in Digital Pathology at the Institue of Tissue Medicine and Pathology, Bern in the group of Prof. Inti Zlobec. Her project focuses on studying the effects of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy on the tumor microenvironment of rectal cancer patients, using whole slide images. In her work, Ana is exploring the use of geometric deep learning in histopathology under the assumption that tissues could be modeled as networks of interacting cells. Using this graph-based representation of the tissues could help better understand tumor microenvironments and gain new insights into disease development.
