Amjad Khan
Postdoc
Amjad Khan graduated with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Bern, Switzerland in 2022. During his Ph.D. research, he developed a Deep Learning-based computational diagnostic tool for the detection of lymph node metastases in colorectal carcinomas on hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections. The resulting tool has been deployed successfully in routine diagnostic practice as the first-ever clinical application at the Institute of Tissue Medicine and Pathology in Bern, Switzerland. Amjad Khan received a joint Erasmus Mundus master's degree in medical imaging and applications from the University of Burgundy (France), the University of Cassino (Italy), and the University of Girona (Spain) in 2019. He also obtained a master's degree in electrical and electronic engineering by research from Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia, in 2017 and a bachelor's degree in electronics engineering from Iqra University Karachi, Pakistan, in 2014. At present, he is working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Digital Pathology Research Group at the Institute of Tissue Medicine and Pathology, University of Bern, Switzerland. His research interests are focused on the development, integration, and validation of artificial intelligence-based clinical tools to assist clinicians in digital diagnostic routines for tedious and cumbersome tasks.
