Aart Mookhoek
Pathologist, IBD
Aart Mookhoek completed his pathology residency in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After his residency, he performed a two-year fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology in Amsterdam. During this time, he engaged in gastrointestinal research in close collaboration with academic partners in pathology, gastroenterology and surgery. In 2021, he joined the Institute of Pathology in Bern as a pathologist. He continues to pursue his interests in gastrointestinal pathology, in combination with his love for teaching and research. His research focus is the study of inflammatory bowel disease from the pathologist's perspective. My interest in artificial intelligence is based on the strong belief that algorithms can and soon will support pathologists in areas where high levels of heterogeneity in reporting exist. Moreover, AI-driven analysis of large datasets may accelerate scientific discovery, especially in complex disease entities such as inflammatory bowel disease.
